Cashless Ticket Purchase on Public Transport Vehicles

Planned cashless ticket purchase system on vehicles

  • The validators on public transport vehicles are not yet fully operational, so cashless payments are not yet available across the fleet.
  • Expected rollout schedule:
    • Trial operation began on 17 August 2026 after 3:00 p.m. in 10 trams on lines X3 and X5 and in 10 buses on various routes. DPMO plans to publish daily information about the participating buses.
    • September 2026: expected launch of cashless fare payment on vehicles.

How to buy a ticket cashlessly on public transport – quick guide

The original page contains illustrated instructions showing the validator screens and the sequence of actions. The translated operational instructions are summarized in the sections below.

Basic functions

The validator lets passengers quickly buy an electronic ticket by tapping a payment card, select other electronic ticket types, buy printed paper tickets valid within DPMO/IDSOK, and view information about electronic tickets associated with the payment card.

Quick purchase without selection

  • Simply tap your payment card on the terminal to obtain an electronic, paperless ticket for CZK 25.
  • The ticket is valid for 40 minutes on working days or 60 minutes on non-working days.
  • The ticket is valid from the moment the transaction is completed after the payment card is tapped on the validator reader.
  • Daily fare capping applies.
  • This ticket is valid only on DPMO lines.
  • The ticket is stored against the payment card used for the purchase.
  • During inspection, the passenger proves validity by tapping the same card on the inspector's reader.
  • Do not tap the payment card again when leaving or transferring. Tap again only after the time validity of the ticket has expired and you need a new ticket.

Electronic tickets – DPMO only

This option allows you to:

  • buy several tickets on one payment card for accompanying passengers or buy discounted fares,
  • select a discounted fare for juniors aged 6–18, luggage or a dog,
  • buy up to 5 tickets in one purchase; for additional tickets, the card must be tapped again.
Important: Daily fare capping cannot be applied to these manually selected tickets. You must press the PAY button and then tap the payment card.
Ticket typeFull / discounted fare
Single ticket, valid only on DPMO lines CZK 25 / 12
24-hour ticket CZK 90 / 45

Paper tickets – DPMO and IDSOK

This option allows passengers to buy multiple printed tickets and use transfer tickets with other carriers within the IDSOK integrated transport system.

Ticket typeFare
Single ticket valid on DPMO and IDSOK lines CZK 25 / 12 (full / discounted)
24-hour ticket CZK 90 / 45
2-zone ticket CZK 37 / 11 (full / luggage or dog)
3-zone ticket CZK 46 / 16 (full / luggage or dog)

If a paper ticket is selected, the passenger presents the printed ticket during inspection, not the payment card.

The paper ticket includes a control QR code for transfers to other IDSOK carriers, for example when boarding suburban buses through the front door or during checks by Czech Railways (ČD) conductors.

Card information

After tapping the payment card, the terminal displays:

  • an overview of purchased electronic tickets,
  • the remaining validity time of those tickets.

Ticket inspection

  • Electronic ticket: present the payment card used for the purchase.
  • Paper ticket: present the printed ticket.

A paper ticket contains a QR code used for inspection when transferring to other IDSOK carriers.

Daily fare capping

Daily fare capping limits the maximum amount a passenger pays for individual tickets during one calendar day, from 00:00 to 23:59, when paying with the same payment card or payment token on the validator.

Once the total fare paid during the day reaches the specified limit, no further fares are charged for additional journeys that day.

⚠️ If you plan to travel in the evening on one day and again the following morning, a 24-hour ticket from the electronic ticket menu may be more advantageous.

Maximum daily prices

  • Full fare: individual ticket CZK 25; maximum CZK 90 per day.
  • Discounted fare (junior aged 6–18, passenger eligible for the stated reduced fare, luggage or dog): individual ticket CZK 12; maximum CZK 45 per day.

After the cap is reached, further journeys that day are not charged.

⚠️ Students aged 18–26: for two or more journeys, DPMO recommends choosing the CZK 45 24-hour ticket directly on the validator. A later refund of the difference from CZK 90 to CZK 45 will not be accepted.

⚠️Use the same payment medium all day

  • the same physical payment card, or
  • the same NFC payment medium, such as the same phone, watch or ring.
⚠️ Attention: A physical card and the same card loaded into a phone or watch create different digital tokens. If you alternate between them, the system treats them as different cards and daily fare capping may not be applied correctly.

When the cap is calculated

The calculation is performed overnight after the end of the calendar day.

Buying tickets for accompanying passengers

The system also allows tickets to be purchased for accompanying passengers.

  • The number of accompanying passengers can be changed for each journey.
  • Daily fare capping is evaluated separately for each passenger.

Payment settlement

Information about the purchase and the actual debit from your account may not appear immediately after payment, because settlement takes place later depending on the card type.

Mastercard

  • A CZK 1 authorization may be placed on the first journey.
  • After the day is evaluated, it is replaced by the actual fare.
  • The final transaction may become visible after 3–7 days because transactions are grouped.

Visa

  • The total amount for the whole day is settled once per day.
  • The CZK 1 authorization is not used.
  • Online banking shows the final amount for the whole day.
  • The payment is usually debited on the following afternoon.
